NAFDAC Shuts Down Two Unregistered Water Factories in Ogun

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action by sealing two unregistered water-packaging companies operating without approval in the Ota area of Ogun State.

According to Mr. Philip Benu, the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Ogun 2 Office, the closure came after routine inspections revealed that the two companies failed to meet NAFDAC’s registration requirements.

Benu explained that regulatory officers from the Ogun 2 office, Ota, conducted the raid and enforcement, placing the facilities of the two companies under NAFDAC seal. Despite receiving invitations to the NAFDAC office in Ota for scrutiny, the companies persisted in operating without approval and even removed the seals placed at their entrances.

The state coordinator emphasized that the companies resumed production using fake NAFDAC registration numbers in unsanitary conditions. He stressed that proper registration involves meeting NAFDAC’s facility requirements, laboratory testing of products, and routine monitoring to ensure compliance.

Benu warned against illegal production practices, noting that the enforcement would continue as NAFDAC remains vigilant. He urged illegal producers to register at the state NAFDAC office, emphasizing that those caught operating without approval would face legal consequences.

Additionally, in response to the recent cholera outbreak in parts of Ogun State, the Ministry of Environment initiated verification of table water and beverage producers to mitigate health risks. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with safety standards to safeguard public health.
