Traditionalists Advocate for Inclusion of Traditional Religious Knowledge in School Curriculum

The Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association has called on both the Federal and State Governments to introduce schools dedicated to teaching traditional religious knowledge as a subject. Fayemi Fakayode, the Secretary of the Oyo State branch of the association, emphasized the importance of imparting Yoruba culture and tradition to the younger generation.

Fakayode urged the government to integrate traditional religious knowledge into the primary and secondary school curricula, similar to Islamic Religious Knowledge and Christian Religious Knowledge. He highlighted the necessity of educating young people about Yoruba history and heritage to dispel misconceptions about traditional religion.

According to Fakayode, the lack of proper education about African origin and culture has resulted in misconceptions about traditional religion. He stressed the significance of equipping young people with culturally relevant knowledge to foster patriotism and prevent misinformation.

During the installation ceremony of two Brazilians as Mayegun and Yeye Mayegun of Ìjọ Ìmọ́lẹ̀ Olódùmarè Àgbáyé, Fakayode reiterated the need for TRK to be included in school curricula. He urged traditionalists to advocate for the establishment of TRK subjects in schools, with the government’s support.

Fakayode emphasized that with TRK included in education, children and grandchildren would learn about their religion, culture, tradition, and history from a reliable source, preventing misinformation spread by foreigners and other religions.
