Rainstorm in Kwara leaves residents homeless

A rainstorm in Kwara State’s Igbonna community in the Oyun Local Government Area has left numerous residents without homes. The storm struck on Thursday evening at around 6:30 pm, accompanied by strong winds that caused extensive damage to buildings, trees, and electric poles.

The storm’s impact was devastating, with many houses losing their roofs or being severely damaged. Residents were left to assess their losses and seek shelter elsewhere.

A Salami, National President of the Igbonna Descendants Development Union, described the situation as highly distressing during an on-site assessment of the damage. He noted that the storm had affected nearly every house in the community, leaving residents confused and struggling to find shelter.

“The event is unprecedented in our history, and the shock is immense,” Salami said. “Many homes have been completely destroyed or severely damaged. The economic impact on the community is also significant, as many are now struggling to find food and shelter.”

Salami called on both the federal and state governments to provide assistance to the affected residents, many of whom are in desperate need of shelter and food.

Efforts to contact Dr. Waheed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee in Oyun, were unsuccessful on Friday. Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ojo Olayiwola, could not be reached for comment at the time of the report.
