Gunmen kill Plateau Varsity Student, 14 others in 2 LGAs

15 persons have been reportedly killed in Mangu and Bokkos local government of Plateau state by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed Tilengpat village in Pushit district of Mangu Local Government Council of the village and killed twelve persons.

Also Gunmen killed three Persons including a student of the Plateau state University Bokkos in a fresh attack which occurred in the Local Government Area of the State .

Newsmen gathered that the gunmen stormed Chikam village in Butura community of Bokkos Local Government council of the state at about 9pm on Thursday and started shooting sporadically.

Sources from the community told our correspondent that the student killed was a 200 level student of computer science.

Plateau State University Bokkos in a statement lamented the killing of their student by gunmen.

In a statement signed by Yakubu Ayuba, the Registrar of the Institution the University authorities said they woke up to the sad news of another heartless attack on Chikam, a community close to the university.

According to the statement ” The sad event led to the loss of a 200 level,
computer science student of the University residing in Chikam, by name Dading James Jordan.”

“This is coming despite the relentless effort by the Plateau State government, security agencies, the Management of the University and other stake holders at improving the security situation on
our campus and the surrounding communities. ”

“Unfortunately, the enemies of the University and the state brought this dastardly attack leading to the loss of our dear student.

The statement also reads that the Vice-Chancellor and the entire management convey their condolences to the family of the deceased, the student body and the university community.

” In view of this sad development, Management has declared a two-day mourning period on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th April, 2024. ”

“Accordingly, all the examinations earlier scheduled for Friday 19th and Saturday 20th April, 2024 are hereby suspended. ”

The school authorities called on students of the institution to remain calm and law abiding .

They also called on Security agencies to beef up security around the university in order to secure staff and students .
