Manchester City has confirmed the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Troyes on a five-year contract, running until 2029.
At 20, Savinho is City’s first addition for the 2024/25 season, with the club aiming for an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title. Last season, he had a standout performance while on loan at Girona, contributing 11 goals and 10 assists, which helped Girona secure a Champions League spot for the first time in their history, finishing third in La Liga behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.
In March 2024, Savinho received his first call-up to the Brazilian national team, debuting in a 1-0 victory over England at Wembley. He also scored his first international goal during the Copa America in a 4-1 win against Paraguay.
Expressing his excitement about joining Manchester City, Savinho said, “I’m thrilled to be part of the Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners. It’s an honor to join the world’s best team and work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches. My time in Spain was fantastic, and I’m eager to face the challenges of the Premier League and play alongside top-tier talents. I look forward to meeting the fans and my new teammates and contributing to City’s continued success.”
Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Savinho as an exciting player who will captivate City fans. “His achievements at Girona were outstanding, and he is already a full Brazil international. We are confident in his abilities and believe he will be a significant asset for City, both now and in the future. Under Pep’s guidance, he will only get better.”
Savio Moreira de Oliveira, known as Savinho, began his career at Atletico Mineiro, debuting at 16 and making 35 appearances, scoring twice, including a goal in the Copa Libertadores. After joining Troyes, he went on loan to PSV Eindhoven and then Girona.
Savinho has played for Brazil at various youth levels before earning his senior cap this year. Manchester City warmly welcomes Savinho and wishes him success in his new journey. He will be officially introduced to fans on Sunday, August 4th.
Savinho follows a line of talented Brazilians at Etihad Stadium, bringing flair, creativity, and skill. Known for his dribbling, he can play on either wing and adapt to various attacking roles, which Guardiola will value. His standout season at Girona saw him dominate the left wing, often outplaying defenders and leading La Liga in successful dribbles. He also made the most appearances across all competitions for Girona, missing only one league game due to suspension.
The young Brazilian will wear the #26 shirt, and fans can look forward to a dynamic and exciting addition to the City lineup this season.
