The FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike, has promised to renew the construction of the abandoned Karshi- Apo road after 13 years of award and abandonment.
Wike made this known on Tuesday when he went on and on- the -spot view of the road which was awarded in 2011.
He said, “I’m happy that this new administration of Renewed Hope Agenda, will do everything possible to see the area of Karshi to Apo is completed.”
“The one that concerns FCT particularly is the Karshi-Apo. It is very unfortunate that for 13 good years, this road has been abandoned, and I want to say clearly that part of the problem we have here is politics.”
” Everything we politicize, and that is why the development cannot get quickly to our people.”
The Minister who described the abandonment of the Karshi- Apo road as unfortunate, said that the present government with the Renewed Hope Agenda is bringing back that confidence.
The situation here is very unfortunate and that is why people have lost confidence in the government. This is why this present government with the Renewed Hope Agenda is bringing back that confidence of people.
The FCT Minister, who stated that FCT resources cannot be wasted on the construction of interstate roads , however mandated the contractor to mobilize the site to prove their capacity to do the job which must be completed in seven months.
“I want to urge the contractor, it will no longer be business as usual. You must show that you will be serious. In the next few weeks, I want to see your equipment on the ground before funds are released. I will not release funds to you, when I have not seen your capacity.”
So they must move their equipment to the site and then they can convince me. But I can tell you here that I am not happy. This is not what citizens bargained for.
Wike also blamed the abandonment of the road project to connivance with the Satellite Towns Development Department, STDD, staff and political interest .
They are part of the culprits, it is unfortunate, but I would take this road as a personal project now, to make sure that we complete this road, he emphasized .
