Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to take over as the head coach of the US Men’s National Team (USMNT), according to multiple sources.
This move follows the dismissal of the previous coach, Gregg Berhalter, after the USMNT’s disappointing group-stage exit from the Copa América this summer. Football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed via X on Thursday that Pochettino has agreed to lead the team towards the 2026 World Cup. The Athletic has also verified this development, stating that Pochettino has accepted the role.
Pochettino’s appointment is a significant step for U.S. Soccer, bringing in a manager with a notable track record. His career highlights include leading Southampton to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League, guiding Tottenham Hotspur to a Champions League final in 2019, and winning a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
