The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has urged lawmakers to recommit themselves to their legislative responsibilities in alignment with the agenda of the 8th Assembly. He made this call on Tuesday while welcoming members back to plenary after a six-week recess, emphasizing the importance of lawmaking, representation, and oversight for the benefit of their constituents.
In his remarks, the Speaker expressed his joy at seeing the lawmakers return and acknowledged that the recess provided them with an opportunity to engage with their constituents and other key stakeholders. He stressed the need for members to work diligently to address any gaps identified during their break, improve areas of strength, and focus on their core legislative duties.
Rt. Hon. Guwor also praised the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his effective leadership and the State Executive Council for approving the new minimum wage and establishing a committee to manage its implementation. He noted that the recent Leadership Development Programme attended by the lawmakers has further equipped them to deliver on their mandate with greater efficiency.
The Speaker highlighted the Legislature’s crucial role in government, working alongside the other arms to ensure the welfare and security of the people. He reaffirmed the House’s commitment to providing legislative support for the Governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which includes the approval of several road projects impacting 23 out of the 25 Local Government Areas in the State and enhancements to healthcare services, including the purchase of CT scanning machines and the renovation of primary health centers.
Guwor assured the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) that the issue of CONLESS is being addressed positively and called for their continued cooperation. He also reminded the Standing Committees to submit their Bills for consideration as the year draws to a close.
The Speaker concluded by thanking the Principal Officers and Members of the House for their unity and support, emphasizing the importance of working together for the common good of their constituents.
