FUNAAB Student Kidnapped in Lagos Murdered by Abductor

Christiana Idowu, a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), who was kidnapped between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos State, has reportedly been murdered by her abductor.

This was confirmed by the Student Union Government President of FUNAAB, Ibrahim Adeyemi, during a phone conversation on Thursday. “The Union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will address the matter soon,” Adeyemi said.

Earlier, a family source had revealed on August 26 that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N3 million for Christiana’s release. The source explained that Christiana was on her way from Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, to the University of Lagos in Yaba, where she was undergoing industrial training, when she was abducted.

After she became unreachable, the kidnappers contacted her family using her phone and demanded the ransom. Despite several pleas from the family, the abductors eventually agreed to accept N350,000, which the family paid. However, the kidnappers refused to release her even after the payment.

In a now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter), a user with the handle @letter_to_jack revealed that intelligence operatives managed to trace the abductor’s location through the BVN and bank account details used to collect the ransom.

The post stated that on August 29, the operatives confirmed the identity of the account holder and learned that the abductor had withdrawn N100,000 before the account was frozen. Further investigation led operatives to a suspect in Ikorodu, who had a mutual relationship with Christiana based on interactions on social media.

The operatives tracked the suspect’s phone and were led to his parents’ house in Ikorodu. However, efforts to contact Christiana’s family for further details were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has yet to respond to inquiries from the press regarding the case.
