Oborevwori Tasks Government Agencies, Others on Corps Members’ Employment

By Anne Azuka

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged government agencies and other employers of corps members to welcome them and provide an enabling environment for optimal performance.

Oborevwori made this call on Tuesday during the closing ceremony for Batch B Stream II corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku. He was represented by Mr. Harry Trakiriowei, Commissioner for Youth Development in Delta State.

Oborevwori emphasized that all government agencies and employers should not reject corps members but rather create a supportive environment.

“I appeal to local government personnel, traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to prioritize the security of corps members,” he said. “Please provide a peaceful and interactive atmosphere to help these youths fully integrate into your communities and contribute to the development of Delta.”

He encouraged corps members to embody the unity and oneness of Nigeria as they serve the country.

“I urge you all to serve diligently and with sincere commitment. Many communities have benefited from the development projects and achievements of your predecessors in national service,” Oborevwori added. “As you join these communities, aim to be worthy ambassadors of the NYSC and strive to make a lasting impact.”

He advised corps members to be role models and good mentors to children and youths in their host communities.

“As a government, we will continue to reward excellent service among corps members and support initiatives that improve the welfare of our people,” he said. “We will also keep discharging our statutory responsibilities to the scheme within the limits of available resources.”

Oborevwori also promised to continue renovating and developing the permanent orientation camp to ensure comprehensive induction and training for corps members.

Mr. Olusegun Alao, NYSC State Coordinator, commended the state government for its support, particularly in the completion of the 700-bed capacity hostel.

“I want to acknowledge the support of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, towards the NYSC in the state. The upcoming 700-bed capacity hostel is a testament to this support,” he said.

Alao encouraged corps members to actively engage in group or individual projects aligned with the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) program.

“I urge you to work towards leaving a positive and lasting impact on the lives of the people in your host communities,” he concluded.
