Former Nigerian-British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has addressed the public for the first time following his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night. Despite the tough defeat, Joshua remains determined to fight his way back to reclaiming a world title.
In a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the two-time heavyweight champion expressed gratitude to his fans and maintained a positive outlook. “We came up short, but we have to focus on the positives,” Joshua said. “That’s the mindset and perspective we need to adopt — a positive one.”
Reflecting on his journey, he added, “Look at what we’ve achieved in the space of 11 years; it’s phenomenal. I want to thank every single one of you who has been riding with me. It’s been a rollercoaster journey, but you know what? It’s far from over yet.”
Joshua acknowledged the challenges he has faced in his career, saying, “We’ve done it once, we’ve done it twice. Doing it a third time hasn’t been easy, but I believe it’s something I can achieve.” He emphasized the importance of inner strength, stating, “It’s about making the right steps forward, working hard, and improving. It has to come from within more than anything — not from external voices or influences.”
Despite the recent setback, Joshua’s determination remains intact. “It’s only been a day, but when I sit back and think, I know I’ve still got a lot left in me,” he declared. “Thanks for your support and for being on this rollercoaster journey with me. Keep your seatbelts tight because we’ve got a lot more to bring to the game, and long may it continue. British boxing, I appreciate you; we rise together. Let’s go.”
This defeat marks Joshua’s second career knockout loss and casts some doubt on his ability to regain a world title for a third time. Nevertheless, the former champion has vowed to show resilience and keep fighting for his return to the top.
