Borno Celebrates Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, Reflects on Recovery Efforts

The management and staff of the Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security extend their wishes and congratulations to fellow Nigerians on this historic occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

In a statement issued and signed by Hon. Commissioner Prof. Usman Tar, made available to newsmen on Tuesday, the ministry noted that “while observing Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day with mixed feelings in the state, following the recent devastating floods that engulfed the ancient city of Maiduguri, Jere, and parts of Mafa and Dikwa LGAs, it is heartwarming to acknowledge our 64 years of coexistence as a nation with many tribes, tongues, and beliefs, yet united in diversity.”

As the country marks the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s proclamation of independence from British rule on October 1, 1960, Prof. Tar emphasized, “It is indeed heartwarming to recognize our diverse coexistence as a nation.”

He further stated that despite the setbacks faced in Borno State due to human and natural disasters, the Borno State Government (BOSG) is committed to repositioning and rebuilding the state to be better than before.

“The numerous projects and programs initiated in the past six years of Governor Zulum’s administration demonstrate that with visionary and committed leadership supported by a team of trustworthy lieutenants and supporters, even a ravaged state like Borno can emerge from misery and hopelessness into a beacon of sustainable development, peace, and tranquility.”

Prof. Tar expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for his exemplary leadership style, the Borno State Executive Council, the Flood Disaster Management Committee, and the Flood Relief Disbursement Committee for their insights and commitment.

“We are also thankful to those who contributed in cash or kind to the Disaster Relief Fund and to those who sent their prayers and best wishes as we cope with the aftermath of the disaster. We do not take your kind gestures for granted.”

He concluded, “Nigeria is the only country we have. Therefore, it is our duty to celebrate and pray for peace and prosperity in our fatherland. May this Independence Anniversary inspire us to work diligently for the development of Nigeria and its citizens.”
