“Andrea Okene: Spanish-Born Forward Ready to Represent Nigeria”

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Andrea Okene, a talented forward born in Spain to a Nigerian father and Spanish mother, is eager to represent Nigeria’s Super Falcons. The senior women’s national team already boasts a strong attacking lineup with stars like Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Uchenna Kanu. Despite their firepower, the Super Falcons have struggled with goal-scoring consistency. This was evident in recent tournaments like the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.

One key issue is the lack of forward rotation. At times, midfielders like Jennifer Echegini and Toni Payne had to play on the wings. Andrea Okene could solve this problem by providing depth and versatility.

Born on November 30, 2001, Okene plays for the B-team of Costa Adeje Tenerife Egatesa. Her football journey began at Levante UD’s academy. In 2021, she joined Valencia’s B-team and later moved to Zaragoza CFF in 2023. This year, she signed with her current club. Okene is eligible to play for Nigeria through her father and has expressed interest in representing the Super Falcons.

She previously attended a Spain U16 training camp. Okene, a winger, can play on either side of the pitch. Her addition would bring flexibility and more squad options. Playing alongside experienced wingers like Ajibade and Kanu could enhance her growth.

Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide, also playing in Spain, might influence Okene’s decision to choose Nigeria. The Nigerian Football Federation should act fast to secure her allegiance and avoid competition from Spain.

By adding Andrea Okene, the Super Falcons would gain a skilled forward who is passionate about representing her fatherland.
