Gov. Aliyu: We’ve Completed and Commissioned 33 Township Roads, 51 More Nearing Completion

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced that his administration has constructed and commissioned over 80 township roads within Sokoto metropolis. This statement was made during the flag-off ceremony for the 1,068-kilometer Illela-Badagry road project, awarded by the federal government.

Governor Aliyu revealed that an additional 41 township roads are currently under construction in Sokoto North and South Local Government Areas. He expressed his commitment to further improving the city’s infrastructure, stating, “We are also planning to construct more township roads across Sokoto metropolis, so that by the time we leave office, the city would enjoy pothole-free roads.”

Reflecting on the condition of roads when he assumed office, Aliyu noted that many major township roads were in disrepair and required urgent attention. “The same applies to all our major roundabouts, which were filled with potholes, making them very unmotorable for road users. Alhamdulillah, all these have now become history as road users now enjoy a smooth drive in the city,” he added.

In addition to urban road projects, the governor also highlighted improvements in rural road infrastructure. He stated that several inter-local government and rural roads have been completed, with more at various stages of development. These projects aim to connect remote areas to urban centers, especially during harvest seasons.

“Being an agrarian community, Sokoto State deserves better roads, particularly in rural areas where cash and food crops are cultivated year-round,” Aliyu said. He emphasized that improved rural roads facilitate farmers in transporting their produce to market.

The governor disclosed that contracts have been awarded for 168.88 kilometers of asphalt inter-local government roads and an additional 187 kilometers of feeder roads across the state. Some of the completed roads include Huci-Gidan Kamba-Lugu junction, Wurno-Kwargaba-Sabon Gari, and Gurmun Gawo-Garko-Mazangari-Kunkumi, among others.

These initiatives are part of a broader effort to enhance economic and agricultural activities in the region. Governor Aliyu reassured residents of Sokoto State that more road projects and developmental initiatives are underway and urged for their continued support.

He expressed gratitude to the people for their prayers and encouraged them to sustain their support for his administration.
