Rivers Assembly Accuses Governor Fubara of Disobeying Court Judgments

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government has expressed concern over the emergence of a new criminal group known as LAKURAWAS.

Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir made this announcement while receiving participants of Course 33 from the National Defence College, Abuja, who are on a study tour in the state.

Alhaji Idris Gobir stated that the group is believed to have faith-based ideologies. He noted that an assessment revealed the group possesses sophisticated weapons, and their criminal activities have been observed in about five local government areas within the state.

According to him, this troubling development comes at a time when the state is already grappling with banditry and other security challenges.

The Deputy Governor assured that as the threat from LAKURAWAS expands, security authorities are working diligently to address this emerging danger. He further emphasized that the state government has been collaborating closely with federal security agencies to tackle various security threats to the lives and property of the people.

Gobir outlined several initiatives the government is undertaking to confront these security challenges. He expressed hope that the study tour would provide valuable insights to authorities regarding the nature of the unfolding criminal activities and help identify solutions that would ensure the safety of lives and promote peaceful coexistence among residents.

Earlier, the delegation leader, Air Vice Marshal Titus Zuwahu Dauda, mentioned that the National Defence College was established in 1992 as the premier military education institution in the country. He explained that the college selects officers from the military, police, and strategic agencies to prepare them for strategic responsibilities.

According to Dauda, the college has graduated 2,982 participants, including many from 30 African and Asian countries. He added that at the end of the tour, the team would present both oral and written reports on their findings during the study tour in Sokoto.
