Former presidential media aide, Doyin Okupe, has commented on the recent appointment of Daniel Bwala as Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications.

A statement from the presidency on Thursday, November 14, confirmed Bwala, a Borno-born lawyer, as one of President Tinubu’s new media aides. This comes just weeks after the president appointed former sports minister Sunday Dare as his Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation.

Bwala, who was once a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, had been a vocal critic of Tinubu. He had famously remarked, “Even if you give Tinubu 30 years, he can’t perform.” Despite this, Okupe downplayed Bwala’s past criticisms, stating that in politics, “interests” outweigh “friendship.”

Okupe shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter): “I congratulate Daniel Bwala on his appointment as SA on Communication. It is well-deserved and fitting. Vance was a hard critic of Trump, but today he is his VP. Allegiances change in politics. The truth is, politics is not about friendship but about interests.”
