Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Laid to Rest in Anambra Amid Emotional Tributes

By Abigail Philip David

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was laid to rest on Friday at his family home in Umuanukam, Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, in a ceremony marked by tears and heartfelt tributes from family, political colleagues, and dignitaries.

The burial mass was held at St. Peter’s Claver Catholic Church, where the Bishop of Ekwulobia, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, presided. Cardinal Okpaleke described Ubah’s death as a poignant reminder to the living, urging people to lead exemplary lives that will be remembered fondly after they are gone. He emphasized Ubah’s philanthropy and his unwavering dedication to making a positive impact on others, calling his life a model of service and kindness.

“The late Ifeanyi Ubah lived a life full of legacy and philanthropy. His death has deeply affected us all. Let us all strive to lead lives that will leave a lasting, positive impact,” the Cardinal said.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, also paid tribute to Ubah, expressing deep sorrow over his untimely death. Reflecting on their last meeting in May, Soludo recalled a conversation with Ubah about his aspirations and ambitions, which, tragically, did not include his sudden passing. “Is this what we discussed?” Soludo said, visibly emotional.

Senator Uche Ekwunife also honored Ubah, describing him as a “rare gem” whose contributions to youth development and leadership would be remembered for generations. “In you, we saw the true essence of leadership and kindness — not just in titles, but in actions,” Ekwunife said.

Joe Ezeike, a kinsman of the deceased, shared that Ubah’s passing had created a significant void in the country’s political landscape. However, he expressed confidence that Ubah’s legacy of service, compassion, and excellence would continue to inspire future generations.

The funeral was a solemn occasion, with many paying tribute to the late senator’s life of service and commitment to his community.
