Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, has announced a global protest against the judiciary over the detention of human rights activist Dele Farotimi.

On Tuesday, the Ekiti police command arrested Farotimi for alleged defamation and cyberbullying. Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria, filed the petition that led to the charges. After his arraignment, a magistrate court in Ekiti ordered his remand based on a 16-count charge.

The arrest sparked outrage across social media platforms, with figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar demanding his release.

In a post on X, Sowore declared that the protests would start on December 10. Demonstrators will gather at locations such as the Afe Babalola Chambers in Lagos, Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja, Police Headquarters in Ekiti, and King’s College Campus in London.

Sowore emphasized the urgency of the protests, stating, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
