Two female students tragically lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on Friday morning around 10 am in Lokoja, Kogi State. The accident involved a heavily loaded articulated vehicle that was heading toward the Abuja axis, which lost control and collided with a Keke NAPEP carrying passengers to the town.
Reports indicate that the victims were female students: Covenant Omolola Isaac, a student of Geology at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), and Abu Taiwo Abimbola, a student of Science Laboratory Technology at Kogi State Polytechnic. Several other passengers sustained serious injuries.
Identification cards for both deceased students were recovered at the accident scene. The bodies of the two victims were taken to the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja by officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission.
In response to the tragic incident, Comrade Akor Caleb Kelvin, President of the National Association of Science Laboratory and Technology Students (Kogi State Polytechnic Chapter), issued a statement mourning the loss of Abimbola.
The statement reads in part: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our cherished member, [Abu Taiwo Abimbola, 2023/HSLT/MCB/087], who tragically lost her life earlier today in a road accident along Felele Road, Lokoja. This devastating loss has left all of us in shock and deep sorrow.”
The association also expressed condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Abimbola and announced plans to organize a tribute and memorial service to honor her memory.
“Taiwo Abimbola will forever remain in our hearts. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
