EPL: Former Manchester City Captain and Manager Tony Book Dies at 90

By Abigail Philip David

Manchester City has announced the passing of former captain and manager Tony Book at the age of 90.

As a right-back, Book led City to four major trophies in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including the English top-flight title and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. He later managed the team to a League Cup victory in 1976.

In recognition of his enduring impact, Book was honored as City’s honorary president and served as life president of the official supporters club.

“Tony helped shape Manchester City for nearly sixty years,” said club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. “His contributions as a player, captain, and manager were extraordinary, but it was his humility and dedication that truly defined him.”

Al Mubarak added, “Tony’s love for the club was unwavering—he was still carrying out club duties earlier this season. His presence at our games will be deeply missed.”
