Rimin Zakara Killing: Kano Gov. Orders Bayero University to Suspend Demolition Exercise

…Announces Multi-Billion Naira Development Project

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed Bayero University, Kano (BUK) to suspend its ongoing demolition exercise following a tragic incident in Rimin Zakara, Ungogo Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of three people and left several others injured.

This directive was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.

During his visit to Rimin Zakara, Governor Yusuf condoled with the bereaved families and announced that the state government would sponsor the families of the three deceased victims. He also ordered the immediate settlement of medical bills for the injured and provided food items to support affected families.

In a compassionate gesture, the governor pledged to construct a new Juma’at mosque in Rimin Zakara as sadaqatu jariya (a lasting charity) dedicated to the three departed souls.

Multi-Billion Naira Development Projects

Governor Yusuf also unveiled a comprehensive development plan for the community, which includes:

– Connecting the community to the electricity grid.

– Constructing solar-powered boreholes to provide clean water.

– Establishing a primary healthcare center to improve medical services.

– Developing an access road to enhance transportation within Rimin Zakara.

The governor issued a stern warning to security agencies against the use of live ammunition on innocent citizens, stressing that such actions are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

To ensure accountability, he announced the establishment of an investigative committee tasked with uncovering the causes of the incident and identifying those responsible.

Governor Yusuf also summoned the management of Bayero University, Kano, to his office and reiterated his directive to halt all further demolition activitie in the area.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the decades-old land dispute between Rimin Zakara residents and Bayero University, Kano. He assured the community of his determination to find a lasting solution that serves the best interests of all parties involved.

Speaking on behalf of the Rimin Zakara community, Baba Habu Mikail, the community leader, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Yusuf for his compassionate intervention, noting that the community will never forget his kindness.

Similarly, the Chairman of Ungogo Local Government, Tijjani Amiru, commended the governor’s swift response, describing him as a leader who prioritizes the well-being of his people. He pledged the local government’s full support in implementing the announced initiatives and ensuring justice for the victims.

Governor Yusuf’s visit and proactive measures have brought a sense of hope and relief to the Rimin Zakara community as they begin the process of healing and rebuilding in the wake of the tragedy.
