Seadogs donate sanitary pads to female students in A’Ibom

 The National Association of Seadogs, (NAS), also known as Pirates Confraternity, Atlantic Shores Deck, Eket Chapter has donated 100 sanitary pads to Girls High School in Eket.

President of the Association, Capoon Idongesit Ifon, said the gesture was in commemoration of the International Women’s Day celebration (IWD) which was marked on Saturday, March 8.

Ifon, said said the intervention by NAS, aligned with the global call to Accelerate Action towards gender equality by empowering young girls, educating them on systemic barriers.

The President also said that intervention included biases that hinder women’s progress in society, addressing menstrual hygiene challenges, and amplifying advocacy efforts.

He stressed the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality and called for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face both in personal professional spheres.

Also speaking, Emem Bassey, an award-winning female author in an an interactive session with the stidents said the sanitary pads would promote menstrual hygiene and thus contribute to reducing school absenteeism.

The IWD according to her has helped to bring together individuals and organisations Worldwide to Honour women’s accomplishments, raise awareness about gender equality issues and advocate for positive change.

The Principal of the School, Mrs Augusta Ekanem in a remark lauded the Seadogs for raising awareness for women’s equality, advocating positive change and celebrating women’s achievement among others.
