Scholarship: FCTA spends N300m on 16, 224 students

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has spent a total sum of three hundred million , N300 million, as scholarship funds on 16, 224 students during the 2023/2024 scholarship award session.

According to the FCT Minister Barr. Nysome Wike, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi on Thursday during the flag-off exercise at the Scholarship Board office, said that the beneficiaries were drawn from indigents students basic in post-basic and tertiary institutions in the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Minister noted that the figure was an improvement from the last Scholarship session award.

Wike who highlighted education as the bedrock of any development, added that his administration would continue to attach more importance to the scholarship scheme so as to provide educational services to the needy.

He however appealed to teachers not to be discouraged when resources are not sufficient, but to continue to make the best out of what they have.

Rarlier, the mandate Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat Dr Danlami Hayyo, commended the FCT Minister for his commitment to education in the Territory.

Hayyo disclosed that under Wike, more than ₦230 billion has so far been invested into education capital projects, especially on rehabilitation and construction of new schools and other educational facilities across all the Six Area Councils.

While, Director of the Board, Mrs. Hannah David, disclosed that the Board, from inception in 2020, has supported education of 146,000 FCT indigenes and indigents, many of whom are doing well in different fields.

The scholarship support scheme covers basic, post-basic, special need centres, Nigerian Law School, and foreign tertiary institutions, cutting across all categories of students, including special needs ones, who are also given wheel chairs and other materials, the Director of Education Board explained.
