BREAKING: Supreme Court sacks Abure as Labour Party chairman

The Supreme Court has removed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

In a unanimous ruling on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court overturned the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had recognized Abure as the party’s leader.

The Supreme Court ruled that the appellate court lacked jurisdiction in the matter, as issues concerning party leadership fall within the internal affairs of political parties and are beyond judicial intervention.

Additionally, the court upheld the appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another party member, ruling in their favor. It further noted that Abure’s tenure had already expired, leading to the dismissal of the cross-appeal filed by his faction within the Labour Party.
