Abuja barber to attempt Guinness World Record for longest haircut marathon

Abuja-based barber Joshua Aiyenuro has announced plans to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest haircut marathon, aiming to showcase African talent on a global stage.

Aiyenuro, founder of T-Jos Signature, a grooming brand popular among top Nigerian footballers, revealed that the event will run from June 10 to 17, 2025, at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

“This vision was born from a desire to go beyond the shop and show the world the strength of African skills,” he told journalists on Tuesday. “This is more than just cutting hair — it’s a message to young Africans: you can dream big, break records, and make history right here on the continent.”

He emphasized that the attempt is not only about personal achievement but about inspiring other skilled professionals — barbers, tailors, mechanics, and artisans — to believe in their potential.

President of the African Civil Society Forum (AFRICSOF), Blessing Akinlosotu, also spoke at the event, calling for support from corporate sponsors, government agencies, faith-based organizations, and the general public.

“This isn’t just about setting a record; it’s about showcasing the potential of Africa’s youth beyond politics and sports — in creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation,” Akinlosotu said. “Supporting this initiative is an investment in African pride.”

He also disclosed that following the marathon, a second phase of the initiative will focus on launching projects aimed at promoting skill acquisition and combating social issues such as drug abuse, irregular migration, and cybercrime.

“AFRICSOF is proud to partner with T-Jos Signature to bring this vision to life and build a new generation of African achievers,” Akinlosotu added.
