BREAKING: National Assembly Leadership Endorses Tinubu for 2027 Presidency

Top leaders of Nigeria’s National Assembly have publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, citing national progress and renewed confidence in his leadership.

The endorsement was led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit held Thursday at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. Akpabio, joined by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, declared unified support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Reflecting on the 2023 election, Akpabio acknowledged the challenges Tinubu faced but expressed confidence that the tide has turned. “If this President has done well, isn’t it our duty to acknowledge that? And if he hasn’t, we would serve him a notice of impeachment. But we are not doing that. Instead, we are giving notice of support for 2027,” he said.

He suggested that Tinubu’s political strength is growing across party lines, even claiming that a Labour Party senator had approached him, asking to join the ruling party. “That speaks to the political sagacity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Akpabio noted.

Despite tough economic and political conditions, the Senate President praised Tinubu’s efforts to reposition Nigeria. “The international community and monitoring groups have acknowledged the direction we’re heading. Grassroots Nigerians and lawmakers alike are feeling the impact,” he said.

Akpabio formally moved that Tinubu should be the sole APC presidential candidate in 2027 and the “unanimous choice of the Nigerian people.”

With the opposition, particularly the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), described as being “in disarray,” Akpabio declared the political landscape was shifting in Tinubu’s favor. “In my own state, the PDP’s umbrella has over 100 holes. The South-South has politically realigned, and it’s happening nationwide,” he claimed.

The motion received unanimous backing from other National Assembly leaders present, with no dissenting voices recorded.
