Kaduna: Family Planning Commodity Campaign Hits the Streets

…Mega Hospital agents spotted

By Idibia Gabriel, Kaduna

Medical workers in Kaduna State have embarked on a street-to-street campaign to raise awareness about the availability of family planning commodities in hospitals across the state.

Our correspondent reports that two female medical workers were seen on Wednesday with a public address system, urging women to visit the Mega Hospital to access free family planning (FP) services.

Before the campaign began, a medical worker at the Kaduna Polytechnic, Sabon Tasha Bypass campus, had informed our reporter that family planning commodities were out of stock.

However, when approached, the health workers leading the campaign confirmed that the commodities had just arrived and were now available free of charge for interested patients at the Mega Hospital.

Wearing reflective jackets labeled with FP kits, the two women called on residents along Baptist Church School Road in the Ungwan Boro community to take advantage of the free services being offered.

When asked about earlier reports of a shortage, one of the workers—speaking on condition of anonymity—confirmed the scarcity but added that fresh supplies had been provided by USAID and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Yes, it was unavailable for some time. That’s why we’re carrying out this street-to-street campaign—to inform the public that the commodities are now available. It’s free,” she said.

It will be recalled that our correspondent recently reported a surge in demand for family planning services in Kaduna State, which led to long queues in some hospitals across the state.
