Gov. Ododo Donates Security Gadgets to Kogi Poly to Curb Campus Criminality

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has donated a range of advanced security gadgets to Kogi State Polytechnic, covering both its Lokoja and Itakpe campuses.

The donation includes the installation of modern CCTV surveillance cameras, lithium-powered torchlights, and rapid-response scooters—all aimed at strengthening the institution’s security infrastructure.

This initiative underscores the governor’s proactive commitment to safeguarding lives, property, students, staff, and educational facilities in Kogi State’s tertiary institutions.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, the items were officially handed over to the Polytechnic management on Thursday, July 3, 2025, by Engineer Sani Isah of SufPay Limited, the company responsible for the project.

Engineer Isah stated that the security items were carefully selected to address the institution’s specific security needs.
According to him, “The CCTV cameras will provide real-time monitoring of key areas, the lithium-powered torchlights will enhance night patrols, and the rapid-response scooters will ensure swift mobility during emergencies.”

He further noted that designated security personnel would receive technical training to ensure proper use of the equipment, and that continuous support would be provided for sustainability.

In his remarks, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, lauded Governor Ododo for his unwavering support in bolstering campus security, describing the intervention as “timely, strategic, and impactful.”

“We are deeply grateful to His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for yet another thoughtful and generous gesture. These tools, alongside the recent fencing of the Itakpe Campus, will significantly strengthen our internal security framework and help maintain peace and order across our campuses,” the Rector said.

Professor Usman highlighted the governor’s consistent dedication to enhancing the institution’s security architecture, referencing landmark projects such as the Itakpe Campus fencing, which has curbed land encroachment and improved general safety.

He stressed that the newly installed CCTV systems and security devices would play a crucial role in deterring internal disturbances and preventing unauthorized access to the campuses.

The Rector assured that the Polytechnic management would ensure the effective and judicious use of the donated items to maintain a peaceful and conducive academic environment.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by Principal Officers of the Polytechnic and the Chief Security Officer.

A key highlight of the event was a tour of the newly installed security equipment at the Lokoja Campus, followed by a virtual demonstration of the installations at the Itakpe Campus.
