CP Seeks Stronger Police–Media Collaboration in Kogi

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has called for stronger collaboration between the police and the media to enhance the fight against criminality in the state.

Speaking during an engagement with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the command headquarters in Lokoja, Dantawaye commended the media for its role in shaping public perception and ensuring accountability. He urged journalists to remain professional and committed to promoting harmony in the state.

The CP reiterated the command’s open-door policy and pledged to strengthen information sharing with the media. He encouraged reporters to sharpen their observation skills and promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.

Dantawaye emphasised that building strong relationships with journalists and media outlets is vital for maintaining a positive public image, securing support, and showcasing the command’s achievements. He outlined key successes since assuming office, including the arrest of 582 suspects — comprising 157 kidnappers, 192 armed robbers, 28 homicide suspects, 38 for unlawful possession of firearms, seven for rape, six cultists, and 168 others.

Recovered items include eight AK-47 rifles, one AK-49 rifle, seven locally made pistols, 11 Dane guns, 407 rounds of live ammunition, ten magazines, a Beretta pistol, seven live cartridges, one Sharon car, and two Bajaj motorcycles.

In his remarks, the Correspondents Chapel Chairman, Mr Segun Salami, commended the CP’s leadership style, noting that the engagement would foster mutual trust, strengthen security–media relations, and promote societal harmony. He assured that the chapel remains committed to accurate reporting of police activities and supporting the fight against crime in the state.
