TCN Takes Anti-Vandalism Campaign to Edo Communities

By Jabiru Hassan

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken its anti-vandalism campaign to Umelu community in Benin City, Edo State, as part of efforts to curb illegal excavations around transmission towers.

The sensitization programme, held on August 20, 2025, at the palace of the Enogie of Umelu, educated residents on the dangers of vandalism and encroachment on power infrastructure.

General Manager, Transmission Benin Region, Engr. C.C. Iwuamadi, commended the community for its support in protecting transmission facilities. He stressed that safeguarding national assets requires collective responsibility, warning that tampering with power infrastructure could endanger lives, destroy property, and threaten the stability of the National Grid.

The event attracted community chiefs, youth leaders, officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the media. TCN said it was adopting a holistic approach by engaging both residents and security stakeholders to protect its facilities.

The company noted that the Edo sensitization exercise forms part of its nationwide campaign to strengthen vigilance around transmission infrastructure. Similar programmes had earlier been held in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Enugu.

According to TCN, the initiative reflects its commitment to safeguarding national assets, ensuring stable power supply, and fostering collaboration with host communities to prevent vandalism.
