Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has said political power will return to the North in 2031 after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration completes two terms in office.
Speaking on a TVC programme, Bago urged Northerners aspiring to be President to wait until Tinubu concludes his tenure. “When he (Tinubu) finishes his eight years, power will come to the North and northerners, who want to contest, can then contest,” he stated.
The governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the President, noting that Tinubu enjoys total support in Niger State without opposition. He stressed the importance of sustaining the North-South power rotation, which he described as vital for Nigeria’s unity and peaceful coexistence.
“In Niger State, there is no dissenting voice. Nigeria is coexisting peacefully because we have embraced rotation in governance. The North will do eight years, the South will do eight years. He (Tinubu) is just two years in office and you are saying it should come back to the North? How? We had opportunities. So, we will continue to support the President,” Bago said.
