Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has shed light on why his name appears misspelled on his shirt—and in doing so, admitted the club is repeating a mistake Real Madrid once made.

The Brazilian veteran, now in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, has remained a regular fixture under manager Ruben Amorim, missing only one Premier League game this season due to suspension against Brentford.

Despite ongoing speculation about his future and suggestions that he may no longer be at his peak, the 33-year-old has continued to prove his value in midfield. Reports from Brazil indicate that he could return to South America next summer, with Flamengo and Palmeiras monitoring his situation closely.

Speaking to La Repubblica, Casemiro revealed the quirky story behind his misspelled name—a superstition that dates back to his early days at São Paulo.

He explained, “I will always be Casemiro for everyone… it’s all São Paulo’s fault. It started when I played one of my first matches for the club. They accidentally printed my name with an ‘e’ instead of an ‘i’ on the shirt, and I had a fantastic game. I’m very superstitious, so I told them, ‘No need to change it—things are going well.’ It was a one-match mistake that became permanent.”

Casemiro is expected to feature prominently when Manchester United face arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, October 19, in a highly anticipated Premier League clash.
