Tinubu Commends Governor Ododo for Upholding Sound Governance and Financial Discipline

By Noah Ocheni, Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his professionalism, integrity, and application of sound financial management principles in governance, describing him as a pride to the accountancy profession.

The President gave the commendation when he received a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) at the State House, Abuja, shortly after the 55th Annual Accountants’ Conference.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Ismaila Isah, said the delegation, led by ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, and IFAC President, Mr. Jean Bouquot, visited President Tinubu to reaffirm the profession’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and national development.

President Tinubu lauded members of the accounting profession for their pivotal role in promoting economic reforms and ensuring fiscal responsibility. He emphasized that accountants are essential to Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable development.

“The accountancy profession represents transparency and information disclosure. A balance sheet must be definite, sure, and sustainable. I have confidence in the profession, and I’m proud of the many great minds working with us, including the governors of Kogi and Jigawa States, and the Accountant General of the Federation, who are transforming theory into practice,” Tinubu stated.

The President noted that Governor Ododo, a Fellow of ICAN, has continued to distinguish himself through prudent financial management and accountable governance, reflecting the core values of transparency and discipline upheld by the accounting profession.

Tinubu also commended ICAN for strengthening partnerships with international bodies such as IFAC and for its contributions to fiscal and tax reforms in Nigeria. He expressed appreciation for the commitment of ICAN members serving on various government committees, including the Tax and Fiscal Policy Reform Committee, whose work, he said, is positioning Nigeria for sustainable growth.

The President assured that the Federal Government would give due consideration to ICAN’s proposed amendment to its establishment Act, stressing that “accountability is the question, and transparency will be the answer to many problems.”

He urged the Institute to continue promoting high professional standards to strengthen the economy and reiterated his administration’s commitment to policies that encourage transparency, efficiency, and responsible resource management.

Also present at the meeting were Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi; ICAN Vice President, Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime; Past President, Chief Felix Kolawole Bajomo; and ICAN Registrar/Chief Executive, Dr. Lanre Olasunkanmi.
