Wike Assures 12-Month Completion of Nigerian Law School Hostel

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister Barr. Nysome Wike has given assurance that the construction of 600 bed capacity hostels at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari will be completed in twelve months.

Wike made this known on Monday at the flag-off ceremony of the construction of the 600- bed hostel to accommodate the growing number of students at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari.

“Let me assure you, the 12 months is 12 months. The contractors are aware that we will not accept variations or anything else”, Wike reaffirmed.

The minister explained that his two visits to the law school campus last year during the flag-off of the staff quarters were when he got information through the attorney general that there is storage of accommodation for students.
.
“And that is why the school is unable to accommodate the number that are being turned down from the various universities. That promise that Mr. President made was in December. Today, we are here to fulfill that promise”, he said.

Wike thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of legal education in the country, adding that it is a clear sign of good leadership.

He said that since the inception of the school and campus , the structures have been there without support, but President Tinubu has delivered interventions into the legal education in Nigeria.

“How many people have intervened directly as Mr. President has intervened today in Nigerian law school? We have provided utility vehicles to the school.”

In the same vein, Wike announced that President Tinubu has approved the building of a new auditorium to take in more students.

The minister disclosed that his son who was recently called to the Bar at the Law School had given him a clear picture of the structural challenges in the school, which he tabled before the president, and luckily it was approved.

“I was privileged to be with Mr. President last night, and I tabled this to him. He said, ‘Go back, make sure another auditorium is built for Nigerian law school,’ he stated.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), also thanked President Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Barr. Wike for their good gesture and interventions
in legal education, adding that the projects speak of the Renewed Hope Agenda in action.

“It is an understatement to say I am happy; I am elated. This marks the fourth major intervention for the Law School and Council of Legal Education under this administration. What we are seeing today is real leadership that delivers results,” he noted.

The Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, thanked Mr. President for his support of the country’s legal institution.

Prof. Hayatu Chiroma said that the construction of 300-bed-space hostels each for male and female hostels in the school will go a long way in assisting the Nigerian Law School in fulfilling its mandate. “We are not taking this gesture for granted.”
