INSPIRATION: Do Not Let Life Define You

With Mary Ewa

Though bashed, pained, rejected, and even abandoned, do not let life determine who you become. Life is a school, and its lessons are learned through these different, difficult phases. Most times, the good people suffer. I have tried so hard to understand this, to make sense of the injustice—but some things in life are never meant to be understood, no matter how long we may live.

Quit comparison. It will only make your journey harder. Remember, no two lives are the same. Each of us has a path uniquely ours. While some may appear to have it all, you may never know their quiet cries. And some may be so busy seeing what they lack that they never appreciate the abundance they already possess.

In life, some people will love you, some will hurt you; some will break you, and others will mend you. Each of these is a phase we must experience at one point or another. No one is exempted—not even God. We individually and collectively break His heart daily. Sometimes we fill Him with praise; other times, we treat Him as though He is responsible for everything that goes wrong. We love Him, promise Him everything, make covenants we don’t keep, then abandon Him. When life seems to be on the verge of destruction, we return seeking His face. How unfaithful, ungrateful, and dishonest can we be?

Yet every struggle, every heartbreak, every betrayal carries a lesson. Life is not about avoiding pain—it is about learning from it. It teaches patience, humility, and endurance. It reminds us that even when we falter, we are given chances to rise, to grow, to realign ourselves with what truly matters.

So, do not let life dictate your character. Do not let rejection, comparison, or suffering define who you are. Embrace every phase, learn from every wound, and recognize that even in our brokenness, there is purpose. Life may not always be fair, but it is always instructive—and it is always calling us to become more than we are.
