NWFL Confirms November 26 Kickoff for 2025/2026 Season

The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has officially announced that the 2025/2026 season will kick off on November 26, 2025, and conclude on April 22, 2026.

According to a statement from the NWFL Secretariat, a total of 20 clubs will compete in the new campaign, which promises to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent years.

The league body also confirmed that six teams will be relegated at the end of the season — a move aimed at raising performance standards and maintaining intensity throughout the competition.

The fixture schedule will include a short Christmas break after four matchweeks, allowing players and officials to celebrate the festive period. Matches will resume on January 7, 2026, as clubs continue their pursuit of the championship title.

“Our goal is to deliver a season that reflects the growth, quality, and potential of women’s football in Nigeria,” the NWFL board stated. “We are committed to ensuring fair competition, transparency, and broader exposure for clubs and players.”

The organisers further assured fans and stakeholders that the 2025/2026 season will feature enhanced officiating, stronger media coverage, and improved fan engagement across all match venues.

Bayelsa Queens enter the new season as the defending champions, having claimed their sixth league title in the 2024/2025 campaign. Rivers Angels and Pelican Stars remain the league’s most successful sides, each boasting seven titles.
