The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) have signed a deal with Chinese manufacturing giant Endurance Group to roll out 500 compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling stations across the country within the next three years.
The agreement, sealed after a series of meetings in Abuja, is expected to transform the availability of CNG for vehicles nationwide and fast-track the Federal Government’s transition plan for cheaper and environmentally friendlier fuels.
Briefing reporters after the talks, MDGIF Executive Director, Mr. Oluwole Adama, said the discussions centred on creating a government-backed Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) capable of executing a large-scale, coordinated expansion of CNG infrastructure.
“This partnership reflects a shared determination to address the critical infrastructure gaps that have slowed the growth of the CNG market in Nigeria,” Adama said.
He revealed that the new implementing company, Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company (CAM InfraCo), will be responsible for planning, financing, and deploying CNG assets across all geopolitical zones.
According to him, CAM InfraCo will drive a wide-ranging programme that includes 500 integrated CNG stations, liquefied-to-compressed natural gas (LCNG) facilities, and a fleet of CNG and LNG trucks equipped with onboard cascades to create a nationwide virtual gas pipeline.
