Former NANS VP Prince Miaphen Marks International Students’ Day, Announces N1m Empowerment Support for Students

By Israel Adamu, Jos

Former Vice President and Acting President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Prince Miaphen, has announced a ₦1 million empowerment package for 100 less privileged students in celebration of International Students’ Day.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Miaphen congratulated Nigerian students at home and abroad, describing them as “the heartbeat of the nation’s future” and the community that shaped his activism and leadership.

“In the spirit of the day, and as a token of my continued solidarity with the Nigerian student movement, I will be giving out N1,000,000 to 100 lucky students nationwide,” he said.

Miaphen also used the occasion to commend the National President of NANS, Comrade Olushola Ladoja, for what he described as transformative leadership that has revitalized the student body.

He noted that having served the Nigerian student community and contested twice for the NANS presidency, he could attest to Ladoja’s exceptional leadership style and commitment to restoring the union’s relevance.

According to him, Ladoja has “taken NANS back to campus,” reconnected the union with its primary constituency, and embarked on facility tours across tertiary institutions to engage students directly and advocate for improved welfare.

Miaphen added that the NANS President has successfully bridged the gap between past and present generations of student leaders, fostering unity and renewed purpose within the movement.

He described this year’s International Students’ Day theme, “Empowering Students to Be Agents of Change,” as fitting, saying Ladoja embodies the spirit of constructive activism, empowerment, and student-focused leadership.

“Mr President, I give you your flowers today and always,” he said, wishing Ladoja greater strength, wisdom, and historic achievements as he continues his tenure.
