NYA to Sign North–South Youth Alliance Accord on December 13 at Arewa House

The National Youths Alliance (NYA) will on Saturday, 13 December 2025, sign the historic North–South Youth Alliance Accord (NSYAA) at Arewa House, Kaduna, marking a major youth-led effort to promote national unity and bridge long-standing regional divides in Nigeria.

The Accord is designed to strengthen interfaith harmony, deepen inter-regional trust, and counter stereotypes and prejudices between youths in Northern and Southern Nigeria. According to NYA, the initiative reflects a renewed commitment by young Nigerians to champion peace, collaboration, and national cohesion.

Framework of the North–South Youth Alliance Accord

The NSYAA, jointly spearheaded by the NYA Vice President (North) and Vice President (South), establishes a structured framework for sustained cooperation. Key components include:

  • – A Joint Declaration affirming peace, unity, and mutual respect.
  • – A 12-member Coordinating Committee with equal North–South representation.
  • – An Annual North–South Youth Unity Conference.
  • – Interfaith and intercultural exchange programmes to foster deeper understanding.

– Coordinated advocacy against hate speech, extremism, misinformation, and regional prejudice. NYA leaders describe the Accord as a transformational step towards redefining youth participation in national development.

NYA Leaders Emphasise Unity and Shared Purpose Speaking ahead of the event, NYA Vice President (North), Abubakar Muhammad General, said the Accord symbolises the determination of Nigerian youths to take responsibility for the nation’s unity.“

Nigeria’s unity is not an abstract ideal—it is our responsibility,” he said. “The North–South Youth Alliance Accord sends a clear message that Nigerian youths reject division and choose dialogue and cooperation. Signing this Accord at Arewa House is symbolic—it represents leadership, history, and courage to build a united future.” NYA Vice President (South), Hon. Meshack Onyeche, described the Accord as “a covenant of peace, trust, and partnership” between young people across regional lines.“ For too long, our nation has suffered from avoidable tensions and misconceptions,” he noted. “This Accord demonstrates that Nigerian youths are ready to lead with unity and fairness. The NSYAA will strengthen interfaith harmony, economic collaboration, and national cohesion.”

Call for National Participation

The NYA has invited youth organisations, civil society groups, religious leaders, traditional institutions, media organisations, and stakeholders nationwide to participate in and witness the landmark signing ceremony.According to the organisation, the North–South Youth Alliance Accord marks the beginning of a new era—one in which Nigerian youths stand together to shape a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation.
