Davido reflects on Grammy loss, shares Chioma’s reaction

Afrobeats star Davido has spoken publicly about his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards, revealing the advice his wife, Chioma, gave him after the ceremony.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Trevor Noah, was held in Los Angeles on Sunday. Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category, which was won by South African singer Tyla. Other nominees in the category included Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

Sharing a post on social media after the event, Davido quoted Chioma as encouraging him to remain grounded despite the outcome. According to the singer, she advised him to be “humble in victory and gracious in defeat.”

The 2026 Grammy Awards also produced several historic moments. Bad Bunny became the first Latin artist to win Album of the Year with Debí Tirar Más Fotos, while Kendrick Lamar won Record of the Year for Luther, featuring SZA.

In another milestone, Aura V emerged as the youngest Grammy winner in history. She won the Best Children’s Music Album award for Harmony, a collaborative project with her father, Fyütch. Aura’s win surpassed the previous records held by Blue Ivy Carter and Leah Peasall.

The Grammy Awards remain one of the most prestigious honours in global music, celebrating excellence across genres and regions.
