Chief Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, outgoing Publicity Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), says stakeholders in the organisation’s Western Zone have micro-zoned the position of 1st Vice President to the Tuomo clan in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Oyakemeagbegha, who is seeking the office, disclosed this during an interaction with journalists in Yenagoa. The Western Zone comprises Ijaw communities in Delta, Edo and Ondo states.
According to him, the decision followed consultations among stakeholders in the zone ahead of the INC’s national elections scheduled for March 7, 2026. He acknowledged that the arrangement is not expressly provided for in the INC constitution but said it reflects a consensus among leaders in the zone.“
Stakeholders from the Western Zone met and micro-zoned the position of 1st Vice President to my clan, Tuomo,” he said, adding that he was encouraged to contest based on his performance over the past four years.
Highlighting achievements of the outgoing National Executive Council, Oyakemeagbegha said the INC had strengthened its advocacy efforts and improved documentation of Ijaw communities nationwide, including the production of a territorial map.
He expressed confidence in his chances at the forthcoming election and pledged to promote unity and development within the Ijaw nation if elected.
