By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Governor of has approved the release of over 90 inmates convicted of minor offences, as part of activities marking the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent.

The gesture, according to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, involves the payment of fines and settlement of compensation on behalf of the affected inmates.

The governor extended warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah in Kaduna State, across Nigeria and globally on the commencement of Ramadan, urging citizens to embrace reflection, compassion and peaceful coexistence.

He prayed that Almighty Allah grants Muslims strength, serenity and abundant blessings during the fasting period, describing Ramadan as a sacred pillar of faith that refines the soul and elevates the spirit.

Beyond abstinence from food and drink, the governor described the holy month as “a school of character and a sanctuary for the heart,” encouraging believers to deepen devotion, practise charity and strengthen bonds of brotherhood.

The statement noted that the decision to secure the freedom of the inmates aligns with the moral values symbolised by both Ramadan and Lent, adding that the intervention is aimed at promoting reconciliation and offering deserving individuals a renewed purpose and second chance.

Governor Sani urged the beneficiaries to embrace peace, seek forgiveness where necessary and commit themselves to lives of integrity, obedience to the rule of law and service to God and society.

He also called on residents to extend kindness to the vulnerable by sharing meals and resources, stressing that the season should reaffirm the dignity of every individual and the shared humanity that binds society together.

The governor appealed to citizens of all faiths to continue praying for sustained peace and harmony in the state, emphasising that Kaduna’s diversity remains its strength and that its people share a common destiny.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to consolidating peace, revitalising the economy and promoting sustainable prosperity, noting that the pardon supports rehabilitation, social reintegration and communal harmony across the state.
