Residents of Egbeda Egga community in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State are assessing losses after a rainstorm destroyed more than 40 houses and damaged several buildings. The storm also affected churches, businesses and schools, with property reportedly worth millions of naira damaged. Dr. Emmanuel Dare Otitolaiye, National President of the Egbeda-Egga Development Union (EDU), confirmed the incident while speaking to reporters. He said the scale of destruction has left many families struggling to cope.

According to him, several residents have been displaced and are currently taking shelter with neighbours and relatives.Otitolaiye appealed to the Ijumu Local Government Council, the Kogi State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent assistance to affected residents.“We urge the authorities to provide immediate support for our people who have lost their homes, businesses and sources of livelihood,” he said.

He added that the community requires emergency relief materials, including shelter, food and medical support, to help victims recover from the disaster. The community leader also called on non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and other well-meaning individuals to support ongoing relief efforts. Local leaders say community members are working together to assist affected families while awaiting possible intervention from government agencies.
