Kogi Flags Off Airport Project, Hands Construction to Contractors

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has formally handed over the construction of a proposed international airport to contractors, marking the commencement of the project in Zariagi, near Lokoja.

Represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku, the governor described the project as a strategic investment aimed at boosting economic growth, trade, and connectivity in the state.

According to him, the airport is expected to create jobs, attract investment, and support economic diversification once completed. He added that the project forms part of broader efforts to position Kogi as a hub for commerce and industry.

Ododo also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to timely completion, stating that adequate resources would be deployed to meet project timelines.The contract has been awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and Gamji Construction Company, with a mandate to deliver the facility to international standards.

The governor urged the contractors to ensure quality work and adhere strictly to specifications, while calling on host communities to cooperate with project teams for smooth execution. He further assured potential investors of adequate security, noting that safeguarding lives and property remains a priority for his administration. The project marks a significant step in the state’s infrastructure development plans.
