Gunmen have killed a pastor, his wife, and their two children in an attack on Gako Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident occurred on Sunday night when armed men reportedly invaded the community and opened fire on residents.
The victims were identified as Rev. Ayuba Choji, his wife Chundung Ayuba, and their children Cyril Ayuba and Endurance Ayuba.Community sources said the attackers stormed the village around 11 p.m. and shot indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee for safety.
A resident, Martha Dalyop, said the attackers operated late at night, causing panic across the community and further deepening fears over recurring violence in the area. She said many residents are now afraid to sleep in their homes or access their farmlands.
The Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and said the pattern of attacks suggests coordinated operations targeting rural communities, farming areas, and vigilante positions. He alleged that the attackers often operate in groups, with some targeting residents while others destroy farmlands or block escape routes
.Tengwong also said additional farmlands in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, were destroyed within the last 48 hours, worsening the situation for farmers. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as of press time.
