The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has described the newly completed China-Aid ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja as a strong symbol of regional unity, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
While speaking during the official handover ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike said the project represents more than a physical structure, noting that it reflects the collective commitment of West African nations toward building enduring institutions for the future.
Wike who was represented by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, commended the Government of China for its support toward regional integration, through a major project that contributes to West Africa’s development.
“This magnificent edifice is not just about concrete, steel, and glass. It is a bold statement that cooperation still matters and that diplomacy can deliver tangible and meaningful outcomes,” he said.
The reaffirmed Abuja’s status as Nigeria’s diplomatic hub, adding that the presence of the ECOWAS headquarters further strengthens the city’s role as a centre for dialogue, cooperation, and African progress.
He also disclosed that the FCT Administration supported the successful completion of the project through approvals, coordination, security arrangements, and infrastructure support.
