The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Delta State has successfully conducted its state congress in Asaba, the state capital.
The congress, was peaceful, orderly, and transparent, as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It was conducted as an affirmation exercise, with party stakeholders endorsing leadership and reaffirming unity within the state chapter.
Speaking in an interview with journalists, the State Chairman, Mr. Obuseh Felix, confirmed that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to monitor the process.
According to him, two INEC representatives observed the proceedings, lending credibility to the exercise.
Obuseh described the congress as “very smooth and peaceful,” noting that the process was straightforward and free of disruptions.
He emphasized that the orderly conduct reflects the party’s readiness to offer a credible alternative political platform in Delta State and beyond.
Highlighting the party’s growing relevance, he noted that the SDP remains a national political institution with a longstanding history in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
He described the party as “the newest bride in town,” calling on politicians, aspirants, and stakeholders to align with its vision.
He urged credible individuals seeking elective positions to consider the SDP as a viable platform, stressing the need to change the governance narrative and introduce fresh ideas that will improve citizens’ lives.
Addressing key issues, Obuseh expressed concern over rising insecurity in Delta State, describing the situation as alarming and requiring urgent intervention.
He also decried the state of human capital development, noting a growing trend where highly educated youths are forced into menial jobs due to limited opportunities.
According to him, the SDP is committed to tackling insecurity, creating jobs, and implementing policies that will empower young people while harnessing the state’s abundant resources for development.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Obuseh acknowledged the role of INEC as the nation’s electoral umpire and stressed the need for fairness and credibility in the electoral process.
He added that the SDP is determined to reposition itself as a strong political force capable of delivering effective governance and restoring public confidence in leadership.
