Perpetrators of Women And Child Abuse Should Be Punished Accordingly-Kulu Sifawa

Sokoto State Ministry for Women and Children Affairs with support from Spotlight Initiative today conducts a one day media engagement meeting themed Strengthening Partnerships with the Media to better promote the availability of reporting and access to essential services for survivors of violence Against Women and Children.

The meeting holding at Dankani Hotel Sokoto has in attendance members of the civil societies, traditional rulers,media representatives,etc.

Speaking at the ceremony, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs,Hajiya Kulu Abdullahi Sifawa challenged the attendants of the meeting,security agencies and traditional rulers as well as responsible members of the society to assist towards ending the illegal activities of women harassment and child abuse.

Sifawa who was represented by Hajiya Aishatu Muhammad Dantsoho also challenged the security agencies in the state to punish perpetrators of such act according to the provision of the Nigerian laws.

She said another reason for engaging mostly journalists was to enlighten the general society of dangers of women harassment and child abuse, adding that it was only an educated woman who can provide adequate care for a child to become responsible member of the society worthy of emulation.

Child Protection Specialist with UNICEF, Mr. Pius Uwamanua in his remarks said provision of safety to women and children is a necessity imposed on every well meaning individual.

He further said right thinking women and children immensely contribute to the development of the state and the country in general.

Ankeli Emmanuel and Hajiya Kulu Abdullahi were among those that presented papers at the brief meeting.
