Gov. Sule fulfils Senator Al’makura 2014 model Hospital project

Government they said is continuation. Gov. Abdulahi Sule of Nasarawa State said he has fulfilled the pledge made by his predecessors, Sen. Tanko Al-makura,’s 2014 model Hospital Initiative by handing over the model hospital to the federal University Lafia ( FULAFIA ) to function as teaching hospital for research and medical training for students.

Sule disclosed this today while handing over the Lafia Model Hospital to the federal university lafia, (FULAFIA,) to serve as teaching hospital for its newly established college of medicine, expressing confidence that such feat will improve health institutions in the state.

He however, appealed to the management of the Federal University Lafia (FULAFIA), to admit 50 percent of Nasarawa indigenes into the school of medicine, adding that the conversion of the model hospital into a teaching hospital, is in line with the determination of his government to prioritize and strengthen the health care system in the state.

While stressing on the general shortage of human resources in the health sector across the country and Nasarawa State in particular, Sule said the establishment of a medical school in FULAFIA, will give create an opportunity for youth in the state to acquire medical knowledge and makes it their profession.
He further said that his administration will continue to support the university in the training of medical personnel for effective healthcare delivery.

In a similar development, the State Commissioner for Health, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, in his welcome address described the handing over of the facility to FULAFIA as historic, highlighting the priority of the Engineer Abdullahi Sule administration, which include, health, education, security and economy.

He also recounted that two other similar projects are sited in Akwanga and Nasarawa by the previous administration, as part of initiatives to boost the health sector.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lafia, Professor Muhammad Sanusi Liman, said the handing over of the facility by the state government will remain history in the institution, highlighting the numerous contributions by the Nasarawa State Government from the inception of FULAFIA to the establishment of the school of medicine.

He therefore, announced that the institution has commenced the process of admission into MBBS, radiography, nursing, MLS, anatomy, physiology and others, assuring the Governor that Nasarawa State indigenes will get more than 50 percent admission.
