Minister of State for Mine and Steel Development, Dr. Okechuckwu Okah has disclosed that the Federal Government is exploring ways to develop the abundant natural resources for faster growth of the nation.
Dr. Okah who made the government’s position known during a courtesy visit to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom at the Government House Makurdi, said his visit was to seek the support of the state government in order to harness the natural resources such as mines, stones, minerals and gold among others.
He stated that the vision of the present administration is to develop the economic potentials of the nation-adding that this would enhance the revenue base of the country, create jobs for our teeming youths.
The Minister who was accompanied by some of the directors of the Ministry, noted that he would synergize with the traditional rulers and others critical stakeholders to enable them achieve set targets.
Also speaking, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom lauded the Minister for the steps he has taken to explore natural resources in Nigeria. He stressed the need for government to partner with the private sector to achieve set goals, averring that industrialists and businessmen hold the key to developing the nation.
The Governor called on the Federal Government to prioritize security in their own agenda since mining activities are usually done in rural areas. He pledged to support the ministry to carry its assignment effectively.
